Well known for its Incan ruins and diverse cuisine, Peru also stands out for its people’s entrepreneurial spirit. Microenterprises, a driving force of the country’s economy, make up 95% of all businesses. Studies show that Peru is one of two countries in the world where more women start new businesses than men! DreamBuilder serves as a powerful tool for these enterprising women.
Freeport-McMoRan has majority ownership of the Cerro Verde mining facility, located near Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa. Working with a wide range of partners in Arequipa and the surrounding regions provides the business women access in the region access to DreamBuilder. Community organizations, NGOs and government agencies recruit women entrepreneurs interested in starting and growing their own business to participate in the training program. The local DreamBuilder partners offer additional support and services to the women, ranging from access to workbooks and computer equipment to facilitated classroom sessions and networking events.
